The Dream-to-Reality Stairway

Many years ago, there was a fire incidence in the apartment building where I resided on the 15th floor. The effect of this: the elevators were non-operational and had me tackling fifteen flights of stairs at least twice a day. This task was not a joyful nor a wilful one but I had to do it even though I did not enjoy the experience. The other option I had then was to relocate temporarily to a friend’s place while the damage was been fixed but I quickly had a change of mind when I realised it was even harder to transport all I needed for the duration via those stairs. My decision to tackle the stairs daily could be easily explained with what Martin Luther King, Jr., once said, “You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”

Answering life’s call to take the first step towards our reality is most likely one of the most difficult decisions we would have to make on our journey to our desired end. Overcoming the hours of having conversations within ourselves to ourselves to finally carrying out the needful is victorious but we must not stop at taking one step rather, we need to keep pressing on to our destination. This advancement requires a commitment!

Henry David Thoreau said, “If one advances confidently in the direction of one’s dreams , and endeavours to live the life which one has imagined, one will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” Commit to finishing your journey the way you have dreamt about it. Yes, you will encounter circumstances that were not part of what you had dreamt about but are necessary for the journey – buckle up and keep your eyes on your prize as you tackle every issue that arises on your path to victory.

Sometimes the obstacles we face are not circumstances but people who do not believe your dream can become a reality – stay clear of dream-killers. They will never understand your commitment to continuing on the stairway to your desired end.

Take that first step to start your dream business or truly desired career (even if those around you think you live in a dream world). You alone saw the whole dream and it is your responsibility to ensure it becomes a reality.
