Bukola Disu was ushered into the inner house and shown a room that Mrs Adeleke said was hers. The action instantly brought tears to her eyes; she had never had a room all to herself before. Back home, she had to share a room with four of siblings; the room also served as their living room where her parents received visitors and where the family gathered to have their meals. When her small bag of belongings was safely tucked in one corner of the room, she was again led out of the room to be given a tour of the house.
Over the months, the family had shown her nothing but love. She was enrolled into a Primary School close to the house. She was beginning to have conversations in English as she was able to communicate basically in the language. She had been going to church with the family and every week she was amazed about how so many people could show love without her giving something. She was constantly hearing about a man named ‘Jesus Christ’ and how He came to die for everyone including someone like herself. Initially, she did not understand why everyone showed so much love but week after week from stories they told about this man ‘Jesus’, she was beginning to understand that what He wanted was for everyone to show and give love.
She had come to realise that she was beginning to feel the urge to love like everyone else around her did but she did not know how to go about it.
