Amazon: Kindle Fire and Kindle Phone
Amazon is an electronic commerce company which is known as the world’s largest online retailer. It deals in products and services crossing across different things like books, DVDs, software, web services and so on.
Recently, Amazon released its Kindle Fire which is barely a month old in the market. The kindle Fire is an Android tablet which is the tablet computer version of Amazon’s Kindle e-book reader. It has a built-in collection of books, apps, magazines and movies. It is a device meant for media consumption. (Smith, 2011)
Its major competition is the Apple’s iPad. Since Amazon is an online retailer, it sells its contents through the device. So even though the price of the kindle Fire is ridiculously cheap as compared to the iPad, Amazon should make its money back through profits would be made through the sales of the entertainment content on the device. (Smith, 2011)
Word is out that Amazon hopes to release a smartphone similar to the iPhone by late 2012. Just like the Kindle Fire, it would be cheaper than the iPhone hopefully making it a source of major attraction.
The emergence of the Kindle Phone was viewed by the analysts at citigroup as a next major step for Amazon. The belief had by citigroup is that Amazon is jointly developing the phone with Foxconn International Holdings, the world’s top contract cellphone maker. Foxconn International Holdings has made many of Apple’s most successful products so that gives the expected phone an edge. (Waugh, 2011)
A lot of expectation is being built as the world awaits the release of the Kindle Phone especially as one of the best companies in the market is involved in its development process.
A little wonder if Amazon would apply the same market strategy as it did with the Kindle Fire for its Kindle Phone. If it does, it is bound to gain more popularity.
